The MacArthur Bridge is a three-span through truss bridge over the Mississippi River in St. Louis, south of the Poplar Street Bridge and is open to railroad traffic only. The bridge was built 1907-1917 by the City of St. Louis to break the monopoly of the Terminal Railroad Association, which controlled the two other bridges at St. Louis and charged unreasonable tolls.
The Poplar Street Bridge is a steel deck girder bridge over the Mississippi River on I-55/I-64/I-70/US 40 in downtown St. Louis, was built in 1963 and is open to traffic. |
