The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries traffic between the Sydney central business district at Millers Point in The Rocks area and Milsons Point in the lower North Shore area. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, also known as the 'Coathanger', was designed and built by Dorman Long and Co Ltd, Middlesborough and opened on March 19th 1932 by Premier Jack Lang, after six years of construction. Made of steel the bridge contains 6 million hand driven rivets. Sydney Harbour Bridge with a total length including approach spans of 1149 metres and an arch span of 503 metres is the world's largest long-span bridge and it is the tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 metres (440 ft) from top to water level. The deck width of 49 metres makes Sydney Harbour Bridge the widest longspan Bridge in the world.
