The Three Sisters is a unique sandstone rock formation towering above the Jamison Valley at Echo Point, near the township of Katoomba in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. Their names are Meehni (922 m), Wimlah (918 m), and Gunnedoo (906 m). The commonly told Aboriginal legend of the Three Sisters is that three sisters of the Katoomba tribe fell in love with three men from the neighbouring Nepean tribe, but tribal law forbade them to marry. The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle. The lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger so they were turned into stone by a witchdoctor to protect them but he was killed in the fighting and no one else could turn them back.
