The West Gate in Canterbury Kent, built in about 1375, was one of eight gates through which people could enter the town of Canterbury and is the largest surviving gate in England. Westgate was built by archbishop Sudbury, in the reign of King Richard II. This gate is situated at the west end of Canterbury, through which the high road passes towards London, and stands between two round towers, erected on the western side of River Stour.
