Dingle (Europe's most westerly town) is a town in County Kerry (known as the Kingdom county) in Ireland on the Atlantic coast some 50 kilometres (30 miles) west-south-west of Tralee and 80 kilometres (50 miles) west-north-west of Killarney. Dingle (Irish: An Daingean "the Fort" or Daingean Uí Chúis "O'Cuis's Fort") is situated in a Gaeltacht region on a natural harbour sheltered by hills on three sides below Slievanea mountain on the large Dingle peninsula, which lies south of the River Shannon and north of the Ring of Kerry. Dingle Peninsula is the most northerly of the mountainous headlands of Kerry in Ireland. The Peninsula at its most dramatic can be seen by travelling north-eastwards from Dingle to Tralee, through the heights of the Conor Pass that reveals sight of the summit of Mount Brandon, Ireland's second highest peak. From the top of Conor Pass you have a wonderful panoramic view of Dingle and its rugged surroundings. Dingle has only three main streets Green Street, Main Street and John Street. Ryan's Daughter was filmed on the Dingle Peninsula in 1969. Dingle harbour is one of the world's natural beauty spots - home to an active fishing fleet and resident dolphin - FUNGI.
