Newport (Irish: Baile Uí Fhiacháin) is a small town in
County Mayo. It is located on the west coast of
Ireland, along the shore of Clew Bay, north of Westport. The N59 road
passes through the town. Castlebar is also near the town. Newport has
a very striking railway bridge (no longer used for rail carriage) like
an aqueduct, which, with the catholic church
on top of the hill, dominate the town and create a picturesque
appearance. The church is so imposing that it is usually referred
to as 'Newport Cathedral'. |
