Castell de Ferro (from Catalan, Iron Castle) is a coastal town situated on Spains Mediterranean coast between Calahonda and La Rabita in the municipality of Gualchos in Granada, Andalusia. After an unsuccessful rebellion of the Moors, and their subsequent removal, the village was repopulated with Christians from other parts of the country, especially from Catalonia, which explains the origin of the name of Castell de Ferro. Castell de Ferro was named after the Moorish castle that stands on the hill behind the town, which was built to defend the natural harbour that it overlooks.
