Llançà is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. Llanca is situated on the coast between the Cap de Creus and the French frontier, 14 kilometres from the French border and 7 kilometres from Port de la Selva. The old town was built on a small hill, a kilometre from the sea, away from marauding pirates. During the 17th century with piracy in decline, fishermen began to occupy the adjacent coast at El Port (now Port de Llanca) whilst the old town expanded into the surrounding countryside. The C-252 connects the town with Figueres and continues on to the border at Portbou and by road Llanca can be reached via Port de la Selva or Vilajuïga. . The monastery Sant Père de Rodes is located between Llançà and Port de la Selva and is considered the most important building in Catalonia from the Roman era.
