Candelaria lies on the south facing coast of the island of Tenerife 22 km from the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Candelaria is the home of the statue of Our Lady of La Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands. The basilica of Our Lady of La Candelaria occupies a large central square and includes the sculpture of the Virgin Mary. On the side of the square close to the sea stand the 9 figures of the last Gaunche Menceys or native kings of the island. The view is of the seafront taken from the basilica square. |
